SFWA Opens to Consideration of Self-Published Authors
"....the membership of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America has
approved bylaw changes that enable SFWA to accept self-publication and
small-press credits for Active and Associate memberships in the
organization. We are using existing levels of income but are now
allowing a combination of advances and income earned in a 12 month
period to rise to the qualifying amounts."

It's about time.
It may have taken a while but I think that they took a very sensible approach to entry standards that creates a fairly level playing field. (Yes, RWA, I am looking at you).
I agree that their entry standards are reasonable (now), but there's no reason why they couldn't have come up with them five years ago. They could've been forward thinking (which shouldn't be a stretch for people who invent new worlds on a regular basis), instead they remained entrenched in their position that indie authors weren't real authors because they weren't on the rosters of traditional publishing houses.
