Tell Me About Your Free e-books

I am interested in hearing from writers who offer a free e-book version of their work. Do you do this to promote you print books, to increase your readership, to get people hooked on your series? If you offer short or long fiction either online or as a free download, long term or for limited periods, please let me know about the book and your reasons for offering it free of charge. Let me know if I may quote your comments and if you would also be interested in having the book reviewed. You can comment here or email podpeep at gmail.com

My book The Mars Run is available online in HTML format for free. The logic is that people will read it, like it and buy it. I think if you're self-published, you need to overcome the natural tendency of others to think "the book sucks." Letting them read it is the only way I know to beat that.

The PDF download is not free yet, but I'm thinking about doing so for a limited time.

I have thought about putting the whole book (it's a short book) on my blog, but right now I only have the first four chapters up. I did the book as an experiment, and even if it doesn't sell really well, it is a valuable learning experience.

Well, I posted my whole book up on my blog to celebrate "Technopeasants Unite!" day. I'll probably take it down after the 23rd.

I write for an erotica site and we have our own store at lulu.com. None of us allows for free downloads of our longer works, but several of the writers have short stories available for free. The idea is to let readers get an idea of our writing style before deciding to spend money either on an e-book, paperback, or hardcover. Also, if they don't wish to purchase from our lulu.com store, they can follow the links to our site and subscribe to a membership. So far, this tactic has worked well for several of our writers.
