The contact info is on the site. I am looking for weird and wonderful, abstract, thinky, literary etc. Stuff that doesn't necessarily follow traditional story construction, but it's fine if it does. I am open to all genres except the sexually explicit stuff. If you can disguise it then great. I mean, the narrator in Persian Cat is masturbating on the train. I just don't say it.

DED, I totally suck at short stories. Novellas I can do, novels, not so much, and flash seems to be my thing, but only the super short stuff.Cheryl Anne Gardnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564041914501542048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20796627.post-46708144066736783772011-04-17T14:06:32.456-05:002011-04-17T14:06:32.456-05:00Really, really great advice. I've had some success with a few, and recently got offered a spot for one in Suspense Magazine. I thought that piece would never fit anywhere.

I'm really interested in the journal you'll be opening up if you can send me some more information?Michelle D. No promises.

Jim Murdochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12786388638146471193noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20796627.post-36878399803874025312011-04-15T20:44:29.106-05:002011-04-15T20:44:29.106-05:00Congratulations on getting your story published!
...Congratulations on getting your story published!

I have struggled with finding matches for my short stories. I research as best I can but I don't know if the quality isn't there or if it's just a matter of editor's taste or if it's the sheer volume of writers I'm competing against. I often feel like it's pointless and that I should just release them on Smashwords. I've a couple stories there already (one as a reprint, the other wasn't suitable for any market due to content) and I see from the stats that at least they're being read there.DEDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07266406676643270732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20796627.post-57081050486969466522011-04-15T07:34:34.849-05:002011-04-15T07:34:34.849-05:00That's fantastic Jim. I tend to fixate. :-)

I am opening a new flash journal in May, 500 words or fewer, abstract stuff. I can send you the info if you want to contribute. I've got some great writers lined up so far. As for Persian Cat, there are only two people on the train in that story. The near sited girl and her estranged lover. She's narrating it in third person. I like writing the stuff that gives readers a WTF moment.Cheryl Anne Gardnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564041914501542048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20796627.post-76408788925523176412011-04-15T04:53:45.450-05:002011-04-15T04:53:45.450-05:00Not in any way to try to steal your thunder but I’...Not in any way to try to steal your thunder but I’ve also had a piece of flash accepted but it won’t be live for a couple of weeks yet. The interesting thing is that it was rejected only the day before I resubmitted it and the only reason I sent it out again so quickly was after reading a Facebook message asking for submissions and I thought: What the hell?. A delighted acceptance came back within a few hours. There is an audience out there for everything we write. It’s just a matter of making contact with someone who sees the world the way we do. Many years ago I stopped trying to understand why people took what they took. Out of five or six poems they never took the one I would have. In fact quite often they took the one I added in to make up the numbers. This happened only yesterday.

Anyway I’m pleased for you. You should give Ink Sweat and Tears a try. They like short stuff and they respond quickly.

I read ‘Persian Cat’ over – several times – and I keep coming up with the same nagging question: Who is the narrator? Other than that I quite liked it.

Jim Murdochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12786388638146471193noreply@blogger.com
